3 Key Factors to Consider When Buying a Bar or Counter Stool

share

Breakfast bars, regular bars, and kitchen islands have quickly become the popular place to eat your meals, host a gathering, and even do your work at home when you need a break from your home office.

And, that means that the stools and chairs you choose for your space matter.

We sat down with our Parker Gwen Design Team to share the three key factors you absolutely MUST consider when purchasing your brand new bar or counter stool set. Keep reading for helpful resources and tools for finding your perfect set.

1. Height And Distance

Perhaps nothing is more important than picking the right height for your stool. Too tall, you’ll feel like a giant (whose knees obnoxiously hit the counter all day long). Too short, suddenly you’re a child who looks just a bit funny with the counter hitting your chest.

Our recommendation? Measure the floor to your counter or table, then consider stools that give you between 10-12" from the seat to the counter.

But, don’t stop there! On top of height, you have to consider just how many stools will comfortably fit at your island too. We recommend a distance of 6" between stools to allow for extra leg room.

2. Must-Have Features

When researching the perfect stools for your space, there’s a lot to consider. Whether your space calls for low-backs, swivel, upholstered, wood, or something else - it’s a lot to think about.

First and foremost, you’d be surprised just how much people regret not splurging on a comfortable barstool set. Whether it’s used for your morning cup of coffee, makeshift office, or family game night, comfort is king in the kitchen.

Outside of comfort, you also have to consider durability! Have kids who often make a mess? We recommend a wood made stool like the Cassell that’s easy to wipe down. Prefer to opt for elegance? Try the stunning fabric of the Task stool.

Lastly, don’t forget to evaluate what features you may want like a footrest, swivel or high-back based on your kitchen or bar style and beyond!

3. Style

Last, but certainly not least, make sure to consider the style and feel you want your home to have when picking out your bar or counter stool set.

Love Mid-Century Modern? Opt for a mahogany wood stool with a low back.

Is farmhouse style your favorite? Try out a touch of rustic charm with a natural grain wood or woven stool.

Moved by a modern farmhouse? Leather and fabric chairs go a long way!

Inspired by industrial? Try a metal or iron stool to make a statement.

Whichever style you love just remember this: Choose barstools that will tie together your bar or kitchen area while keeping you comfortable, too. Inspired to fill your space? Click here to shop our bar and counter stool collection.
